JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 16 year old Alex Ross is fighting for his life at Shands Jacksonville. Now police are trying to figure out who shot the boy.
Detectives aren't sure if the shooting was an accident or not. Ross' neighbors tell Action News Ross and some friends may have been playing with a gun, when it accidentally went off.
"It's a tragic thing," says neighbor Houston Sanders.
Police got a call about the shooting just after 3:00 on Wednesday. It happened at a home on Clarendon Road.
Detectives took three teenage boys into the station for questioning.
According to Charles Stephens, who showed up at the crime scene after seeing the shooting on the news, his 16-year-old grandson is the one who pulled the trigger.
"I have no idea why. They should not even have guns," says Stephens.
As of late Wednesday night, Ross was in critical condition.
