JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- They came in carloads. Some sat in the drive-thru, some stood in line, but everyone waited. The lines were long, but the convictions were stronger.
"We have to realize that we need a leader like Mr. Chick-fil-A,” said local customer Eugenie Barjum.
To show support, they came to buy chicken sandwiches. There were even some who wouldn’t normally.
"That's the first chicken I've had in 35 years,” said City Councilman Don Redman.
Redman left his vegetarianism at the Chick-fil-A door Wednesday in support of the restaurant chain and its Christian president Dan Cathy’s public opposition to same-sex marriage.
"It means that much to me to make a statement. Mr. Cathy is a good man. I want to honor him and his stand,” Redman said.
Redman ate there for both lunch and dinner and wouldn’t you know the chicken tasted just like…
“I guess it tasted like chicken,” he said with a laugh.
But Redman wasn’t the only politician involved. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee dubbed today “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” on Facebook. However, just a couple pages over the boycotts began with protesting pictures prominently displayed.

On Friday, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is organizing a “National Same-Sex Kiss Day” to be held at Chick-fil-A restaurants nationwide.
As for Redman, he tells us he’ll return to being a vegetarian tomorrow.
