JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The all-clear has been given at Terry Parker High School following a chemical spill.
No injuries have been reported.
The school had been on a code red lockdown since about 9 a.m.
Firefighters say a pool of liquid and vapors poured out of a 20-ounce soda bottle. The area was evacuated.
"We had to just keep the lights down and everybody had to stay quiet for awhile," sophomore Sophia Raya said.
The spill and cleanup was contained to that area. Hazmat teams did some acid-based neutralizing and JFRD ventilated the area.
JFRD says the incident was likely the result of a prank.
"It's terrifying. It's absolutely terrifying. They're not coming back to school tomorrow, I can tell you that," parent Rochelle Anderton said.
Wendy Lehockey, a Duval County School Board spokeswoman, says the school will remain open for the day, but parents can pick up their children if they wish.
JSO set up a parent pick-up location at the bus loop off Townsend Boulevard.
"Hey, we got to go pick him up. You know, I'm thinking about what happened up in Connecticut," grandparent Glenda Fells-Sharon said.
