JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Neighbors in Mandarin could feel relief when the Florida Department of Transportation announces plans to include sound walls along areas of I-295.
Express toll lanes will be added to three areas of I-295, starting with the stretch between I-95 and the Buckman Bridge where construction is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2014 and projected to open in 2017.
"There's kind of that eerie feeling that what if there was an accident on the other side of this chain link fence, where's it going to go," said Cheyenne York, a mother whose son plays baseball at Burnett Park, which runs directly along the side of the highway. York says she's happy to hear neighbor's concerns are being considered.
Action News is told the FDOT will announce its plans for the tolls and sound walls at a public hearing Tuesday at the Ramada Conference Center, 3130 Hartley Road. The presentation begins at 4:30 PM and public comment will begin at 6:30.
