St. Simons Island building fire damages apartments and forces evacuations

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- A multi-use building in the heart of the Golden Isles caught fire Friday evening leading to evacuations and damage of several apartments.

Glynn County Fire Department arrived at the scene around 11:45 p.m. to find flames in the apartments located above the ground level businesses in the building on the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Mallery Street.

No one suffered from serious injuries during the fire fight.

Several of the business that were evacuated on Friday are now back open.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.  No word yet on a damage estimate.
