UNDATED (AP) -- It's a kinder, gentler "American Idol." But will it be more popular? Season-13 of Idol debuted last night, after a ratings slump.
Jennifer Lopez was in the center spot at the judges' table. J-Lo returns and is joined by holdover Keith Urban and new addition Harry Connick Jr. It was all smiles and love at the judges' table in contrast to last season. The judges were even nice to the few comically bad singers. But most of the comic relief was from people actually got golden tickets to Hollywood. One guy played air guitar.
Connick held another in his arms like a baby as he sang. He makes it, too. The auditions were in the Boston area and Austin, Texas. Even the New England Patriots figured into last night's show. Pats cheerleader Stephanie Petronelli showed up in her skimpy costume.
She got two out of three nods, good enough for a ticket to Hollywood. Tonight, we see more from Austin and auditions in San Francisco.
