JULINGTON CREEK, Fla. -- Several agencies responded to the scene of a boat explosion in Julington Creek Friday afternoon.
Investigators tell Action News the boat owner was trying to change a fuel pump when he noticed a leak.
Moments later the boat owner says he heard the "boom" of an explosion.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, the Coast Guard, Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission and the Department of Environmental Protection responded to the scene to asses the damage.
They say heavy smoke was visible when they arrive. The boat, a 30 foot Sea Ray, is a total loss, and 30 feet of the dock is destroyed due to the fire.
However, the owner of the boat managed to escape injury.
No other boats were damaged in the explosion.
