KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A senior Afghan official says the head of Afghanistan's intelligence service has been wounded in an assassination attempt.

The official says Asadullah Khalid suffered injuries on the lower part of his body when a bomb exploded. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose the information.

The official says the bombing occurred on Thursday afternoon in the intelligence chief's guest house in Kabul as he was receiving a visitor.

The official says Khalid has been rushed to a medical facility run by the intelligence service.
