ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --  It's an early but interesting morning as my photographer and I are heading to St. Petersburg. We'll be in the audience to cover former Florida Governor Charlie Crist's announcement he's running for the state's chief office again. He's making the expected announcement from Alfred Whitted Park in his hometown. He graduated from St. Pete High School and went onto Florida State following a short time at Wake Forest (his two past alma maters, the Seminoles and Demon Deacons' football teams face off this weekend. He was a career Republican until 2010 when his party transition began. In 2014, he's running as a Democratic candidate for Governor after two years or so out of the political spotlight. Yet since he decided not to seek reelection when his first stint as Governor ended in 2010, he's still managed to stay somewhat relevant. He lost a bid to fill Mel Martinez's U.S. Senate seat that year when he ran as an Independent in the election captured by current Republican Sen. Marco Rubio. Crist got more votes as an Independent, however, than Democrat Kendrick Meek. Even now as a Democrat, experts think Crist could still appeal to Independent voters and capture the votes. He'll make the announcement this morning at 10:00. After that, I'll interview him one-on-one. Do you have any questions you'd like me to ask the former governor? Let me know by emailing me at bbaker@actionnewsjax.com. As always, complete coverage will be on actionnewsjax.com and on Action News at Noon, plus later this evening.
