JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A candlelight vigil was held for a local teen a week after he was killed while riding his bike along Sibbald Road.

Family and friends of 14-year-old D'Quan Armstrong gathered at the scene of the accident Sunday to honor the teen. The group, many of whom were wearing shirts with Armstrong's photo on them, released several balloons in the air while yelling "We love you".

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, they've tracked down the hit-and-run vehicle and interviewed the alleged driver but charges are yet to be filed, leaving many to wonder when justice will be served.

Police say the accident happened in the 9100 block of Sibbald Road around 12:51 a.m. The impact was so powerful investigators say Armstrong's body was thrown into a nearby ditch.

"I thought someone hit a mailbox actually because it was a boom," said witness Chicquita Stone.

Stone says she ran over to the scene after calling 911.

"We went to the corner, we got there and we saw the bike and someone saying 'my friend got hit by a car,'" said Stone.

Another neighbor who did not want be identified said the accident has left him shaken up.

"I've been staying back here for 34 years and never seen nothing like this happen," said the neighbor.

Action News reached out to the JSO for comment but our call was not immediately returned. If you have any information about this crash you're asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.
