_______ a recent ESPN poll named Tim Tebow as America's most popular professional athlete in only his second year as a pro, joining a list that includes such athletes as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Brett Favre and Tiger Woods, and providing yet another indicator that his personal integrity and example of humility, service and care for the needs of others are having an important positive impact on the millions of people who now know his unique story; now thereforeTim Tebow stands steadfastly by his particular expression of his faith and continues to set a shining example of compassion and generosity toward children with life-threatening illnesses, orphans, and children struggling with physical disabilities and inadequate health care, especially in the Philippines; andafter starting the 2011 season as the backup quarterback, Tim Tebow became the starter in the sixth game of the season and rallied the 1-4 Broncos to an 8-8 regular season record and the AFC West Division championship with a string of amazing fourth quarter comebacks, then threw an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild card round of the playoffs before the Broncos fell to the New England Patriots in the divisional playoff game; and despite well-publicized doubts by many football experts about his NFL prospects because his skill set and style of play do not fit the typical NFL quarterback mold, the Denver Broncos chose Tim Tebow in the first round of the NFL draft with the intention of keeping him at the quarterback position, where he played sparingly for much of the season until going 1-2 as a starter late in the season; and Tim Tebow chose to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Florida, his parents' alma mater, where he had a truly outstanding college career, helping lead his Gator team to two national championships and earning the Heisman Trophy for himself in 2007 - the first sophomore ever to win the prestigious award emblematic of "the most outstanding player in college football whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity" and who "epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance and hard work"; andA RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING DENVER BRONCO QUARTERBACK TIM TEBOW ON HIS OUTSTANDING SEASON AS THE DENVER BRONCOS STARTING QUARTERBACK; ON BEING VOTED "AMERICA'S FAVORITE ATHLETE" IN A RECENT ESPN POLL; AND ON HIS PHILANTHROPIC WORK THROUGH THE FIRST AND FIFTEEN PROGRAM AND TIM TEBOW FOUNDATION; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
