JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- I flew up to Connecticut to visit the Consumer Reports test track to see how they test out their vehicles.

There I met with director of auto testing Jake Fisher. "Every car that we test we actually buy. So first thing we have to do is go out to the dealership. So we actually go anonymously. We find the cars, we buy them, we bring them out here."

They have three hundred twenty seven acres to test cars and trucks on various road conditions. And boy do they test them! "Acceleration tests, braking tests, wet breaking tests. We do emergency handling tests."

At consumer reports they test every car top to bottom, inside and out. From the tires to how different car seats fit in the back. "When we test the cars we test them in a variety of different ways with a variety of different people too. We use short drivers and tall drivers and every type of person and see how it fits them."

You can see more on how Consumer Reports test their cars by going to my website.

Watch Clark Howard weekday mornings on Action News This Morning on FOX30 beginning at 7 a.m.
