JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Congresswoman Corrine Brown is suing the state of Florida.

Last year, the legislature reduced the number of early voting days, cutting five including the Sunday before an election, in an attempt to save money.

Brown says that was misleading. Instead, she believes it was an attack on Democratic, African American voters who take advantage of early voting.

In July, she expressed her concerns on the steps of the Duval County Federal Courthouse.

"There is a deliberate attempt to suppress the African American vote," said Brown.

Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland told Action News, even though there are fewer days, the total hours are the same, because polls open earlier and close later.

Brown says that's not enough, however, so she's suing the state, and named Holland in the suit.

On Wednesday, US District Judge Timothy Corrigan will hear her arguments for bringing back the original number of early voting dates. The hearing begins at 9:30 AM.
