JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Out with the old, in with the new. We hit the streets this first day of 2013 to see what folks are hoping for.
"We need people downtown. And businesses. And mainly, small businesses is what would be nice," Judy Sigman said.
Signman's husband, Donald, has his own vision with a twist.
"The Jacksonville Landing, I think needs a lot of help," he said.
We took these concerns to City Council President Bill Bishop. He's hopeful about the urban core.
"We got the DIA in place, the Downtown Investment Authority. They're off and getting things running and excited about getting things done, and I'm excited to see what can come out of that. So, I think we have a good opportunity going in to next year to see some things happen downtown, which is a great thing for everybody," he said.
Bishop says his biggest wish is a solution to the city's expensive pension problem. He hopes a long term agreement can be reached -- that will save the city money in tight budget times.
His other wish: a winning home football team. Through it all, he asks everyone to stay hopeful.
"I just believe in the resilience of our country, resilience of our city and our citizens and we're going to come out of this and be fine."
The quest toward 2013 begins Wednesday when offices reopen and people start planning.
