PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.-- THE PLAYERS 2013 is the first tournament in the comeback for two-time champion Davis Love III.

The former PGA Champion is making a comeback from neck surgery and says he missed playing competitive golf and being around his friends.

Love needed the surgery for numbness and tingling in his hands. He thinks he is ready to play and that he is swinging hard and getting the distance he needs off the tee.

I asked DL3 what it takes to win here and it sounds like a recipe for success.

"You have to to be patient, hit it in the fairway and to the middle of the green."

Love adds that the TPC Sawgrass course is a major championship style golf course.

"Big names win this tournament." Love says you cannot be putting for par and expect to win.

Love is playing in his 28th straight PLAYERS, but still gets nervous playing the 17th hole. He played a practice round alone and 17 still scares him. It's one thing to play it Thursday with no wind. Sunday is a different story when you are in one of the final groups.

Davis Love III will tee off at 1:07 p.m. on Thursday with Ben Curtis and Retief Goosen off the 10th tee.

You can see him play the famous 17th holes a couple of hours later. Hopefully, we get to see if that swing holds up a few days later in one of the final groups on Sunday. Davis Love III is a regular guy and future Hall of Famer.

On a side note, he's also selling his posh home in St. Simons Island for a cool $5.5 million.
