ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- The school advisory council for Nathan B. Forrest High School will vote Monday on whether the schools name should be changed. More than 150,000 people have signed an online petition to change the name
of the high school.

The petition comes after some say the name represents a man who enslaved and slaughtered blacks in America.

But the vote will only be a first step. There will have to be a review, then
superintendent Dr. Vitti will have to collect opinions on renaming the school.

From there, it will have to go back to the school board with a recommendation by Vitti about whether it should be changed.

Finally, if they choose to rename it, they must figure out a new name.

It will then have to survive a final vote by the school board.

My name is Lance. I am for keeping the name for Forrest High School and get over the bigotry of a school that has survived for many years. Yes, Gen Forrest has bad connotation, but i am of the mind to let by gones be by gones and stop the racial bigotry and go on with life.
