JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Lulu doesn't know it yet, but the pitbull mix only has two days to live. She is one of about 10 dogs that have called these kennels at Animal Care and Protective Services home since January.
If they are not adopted by Saturday, they will be put down. "They start to go kennel crazy. They start to spin around, and they start to have more medical problems," said Scott Trebatoski.
Trebatoski is the director of Animal Care and Protective Services. Right now, they are at full capacity. Without the community's help, euthanisia is the facility's only choice.
"At some point, you cross that magic line where the most humane thing is euthanasia. And we don't want to have to do that," said Trebatoski.
Anyone who adopts a dog will get a free behavioral class from the Jacksonville Humane Society. They will get a free vet visit and a year's worth of vaccines from No More Homeless Pets.
Rescue groups will also get $500 for any dog they pick up. "We are trying really hard as a community to give these dogs the best chance possible," said Trebatoski.
They only hope 48 hours is enough to get Lulu and dogs like her out of these cold cages and into a loving homes.
