Englewood High gun scare a true nightmare for local grandma

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was almost like deja vu for Gwenda Green, as she learned a teen showed up Tuesday at her grandson's school with a loaded gun.

"I was like 'oh my God, not again. Not again'," she said.

Green felt like the worst day of her life was playing out again. In 1990, she lost her 15-year-old son Sheridan "Andre" Jones. He was an innocent bystander shot and killed in front of his school in Virginia Beach. She says she could have lost her grandson that same way yesterday at Englewood High.

"Each and every day it reminds me of it. It's not a minute second hour day I could talk about it 24/7 and I carry this on my back. Every day."

She says it's a terrifying reality knowing someone was able to pull right up to the school with a loaded gun in tow.

"These kids are not afraid to take guns to schools. They're not afraid of anything," she said.

Green is counting her blessings that her grandson and every other child is safe. But she says she'll never really feel comfortable sending her loved ones off to school.

"It's been 20 years or more and if you can walk in my shoes, if you can live my life, if you can sit back and see the damage that's been done, it's not only effected me from tragically losing my son it affected everybody. People just don't understand what they are doing when they take another life."
