JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jordan Davis' father has described his son's death as senseless and tragic. The 17-year-old was shot a week ago ago during an argument over loud music.
No one knew at the time the impact Jordan's story would have. Across the country, people are honoring his life, wearing T-shirts with his picture, Tweeting messages to his family, and turning up the music the Jordan lived and died for. All the while, people have been asking how and why such a tragedy could happen.
"I can't read the mind of the man who did it," said his father, Ron Davis. "In my mind, anger was a factor, not race. I think it was anger that killed my son. Anger and handguns."
Ron is preparing to say goodbye to his son this weekend at a service in Marietta, Ga, but it seems the grieving father has already forgiven.
"I absolutely do not want revenge. I don't think this country can stand anymore revenge," he told reporters outside the funeral home.
Instead, Ron wants to share his son's story.
"I want the kids of America to go down the street, and look at somebody, and if you look at them cross-eyed they're not going to take your life."
In the weeks to come, Ron Davis plans to start a foundation in Jordan's name. It's a way he believes, to make a senseless and tragic death become a greater story of patience and understanding.
"Once I lay my son to rest I will take more action. You'll see my name come up, and you'll see some other people behind me, and we're going to go all the way to the White House."
