JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fifty people from 47 countries are now American citizens.

They were sworn in at Cunningham Creek Elementary School, where students spoke about interesting facts from different countries.

For many, becoming an American citizen can take years.

Action News spoke with some of those new American citizens about what this means for them.

"It's a great experience, very exciting day for me and my family," said new American citizen Barbacar Ba.

New citizen Marcia Honore says she is happy to be able to fulfill her dreams in this country.

"I'm proud to be here in the United States where I can further myself and my education," said Honore.

Ba says he is also excited to be able to vote and participate in a democracy.
