Former officer gets life for sexually abusing boy
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A former police officer will spend the rest of his life in prison for sexually abusing young boys.
James Scharfschwerdt, 55, was sentenced Tuesday to three life terms. Police say he sexually battered a 14-year-old boy three times.
Prosecutors said Scharfschwerdt gave alcohol and showed pornography to his victims. Testimony from three other victims revealed Scharfschwerdt sexually abused boys as young as 12, according to the State Attorney's office.
He is also now a designated sexual offender.
