AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- It's the world's largest gingerbread pirate ship; 17-feet of deliciousness.
Three thousand eggs, 900 pounds of sugar and a whole lot of gingerbread.
"We started about a month ago to make the gingerbread to get it ready to go onto the ship," Sheldon Millett, Ritz-Carlton executive pastry chef, said. "It's about 14 of us working together. Each of us has a different task."
And it's all edible. This year one of the chefs came up with some new, exciting characters
"He's able to take Rice Krispie treats and create them into these 3D pirates. So this is something totally different for the ship, and we think it's a great addition."
Chef Sheldon knows it's going to be a crowd pleaser.
"The kids their eyes are as wide as saucers."
Which causes a few challenges during the building process.
"Oh the kids, yeah, they nibble a little bit on it whilst we're putting it up."
The pirate ship will be up until Dec. 28 and don't forget, tonight is the Ritz-Carlton's tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.
