TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Governor Rick Scott helped light a menorah to celebrate the first night of Hanukkah.
The governor was guided by Rabbia Schneur Oirichman of Chabad Lubavitch of the Panhandle-Tallahassee.
Hanukkah marks the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrian Army, and the miracle of a one-night supply of oil that kept the temple fires burning for eight nights.
"The story of the Maccabees is an inspiration to people of all backgrounds. Their courage reminds us to stand firm in our identity, trust in our faith, and fight for our ideals." Scott said in a media release.
