NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- Grief counselors are spending the day at West Nassau High School, speaking with friends and classmates of 15-year-old Kyle Warren. He was killed in a crash on County Road 119 Friday afternoon when the truck he was in over-corrected and flipped several times.
"I just can't believe he is gone. I had just seen him Friday at school," said Josh Whitley.
Whitley was Kyle's close friend. He said Kyle was very active with the R.O.T.C. at West Nassau High School and even hoped to serve in the Army some day. "He was funny. He was very smart and talented. And he was just a cool guy to hang out with," said Whitley.
The driver, 17-year-old Dustin Hunt was ejected from the truck. He is still at UF and Shands. His family's attorney tells Action News Dustin still doesn't know Kyle is dead. "He is speaking. He is not very coherent. He is unaware to what happened in the crash. But we do know he is at least able to respond to family members," said attorney, Eugene Nichols.
The Florida Highway Patrol is now investigating this accident. But Nichols says he doesn't think charges will be filed. "Alcohol nor drugs were involved. This just appears to be young men driving and getting into a terrible accident," said Nichols.
It was a weekend crash that now leaves two families and an entire community praying for one teen's recovery as they all grieve another young life taken to soon.
Warren's funeral will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Baldwin.
