JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- The tropical airmass combined with temperatures near 90 degrees will lead to heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms through this afternoon into early tonight. Storms will move north/northeast at 20-30 mph producing rainfall of 1-3" per hour causing some localized flooding. Some of the storms will also produce frequent lightning and strong winds of 40-50 mph with higher gusts which could cause some tree and powerline damage. Expect a slow afternoon rush hour as highways become wet and visibilities low in the heavier rain. The rain and storms will quickly diminish this evening followed by some clearing and areas of fog with muggy overnight lows in the 70s. Expect a repeat performance Wednesday with morning sun and heating leading to heavy afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will top out near 90 degrees before storms develop. Click
