JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Tuesday, Latinos in America made their voices heard.
In fact, some believe their large voter turnout propelled President Obama into office.
"To be frank, the Republicans did not do a very good job at making inroads into that community," UNF Professor Michael Binder said.
The numbers back that up. In Pennsylvania, President Obama won more than eight of 10 Latino voters-- helping him take the state's 20 electoral votes.
In California, the winning percentage was even higher, exceeding 80 percent in some precincts in Los Angeles.
In Florida, Obama carried the Latino vote 60 percent to 32 percent.
"I think it's great they're deciding to voice their opinion about everything," Brooke Shelton said.
Women voters also played a big role. A sizaeable number of women favored President Obama, especially those of color.
Binder, a political science professor, says women's rights issues like abortion likely swayed most of them.
Rape comments from Republican Senator hopeful Todd Akin may also have pushed them to vote blue.
Binder says going forward the GOP must appeal to them and minorities to be successful.
"The Republicans need to make inroads into the non-white population or that party is in serious trouble, long-term," he said.
