MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- Step by step, almost 300 runners pounded the pavement for a man they never knew and will never meet. "It's a really sad thing, and we want them to know we are supporting them," said Jacque Ottosen.

"Anything to benefit Clay County and especially Detective White is a privilege to do," said Dana Dillard.

Detective David White was a husband, father of two young children, a soldier and police officer. And he was only 35-years-old when he was killed in February as he was trying to take down a meth house.

"It really upset me. Really upset me. I knew he had a family. Like him, I also have a family," said Richard Robinson.

"It was just a tragedy for our community, for our family. And my heart just goes out to them," said Dillard.

A scholarship was started in his and his wives alma mater, Middleburg High School. And everyone running Saturday morning will help a student there who is on their way to college. "It's just really exciting to see the community come together to do a great thing," said Ottosen.

They say it's there way to keep the memory alive of a self-less, dedicated man, whose sacrifice connects them all. The David White Scholarship will be awarded to a Middleburg High School senior who is a member of the band.
