JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office detective has resigned amid allegations that he made threats against President Barack Obama.

Sheriff John Rutherford released a statement on Thursday saying JSO learned on Nov. 9 of the alleged threats regarding the president and members of the Democratic Party. JSO then questioned detective Sam Koivisto. They said he admitted to making the statements.

"We found his comments to be unacceptable workplace conduct, as opposed to legitimate threats," Rutherford said in a written statement.

An internal investigation was to begin, but instead Koivisto resigned. The statement also says the U.S. Secret Service has been notified.
