JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The sound of bullets haunts the Lakewood neighborhood.

"This has got to stop."

According to police, Bishop Lane was lit up by gunfire from a vehicle driving by about 11 p.m. Friday. The result left numerous holes and a toddler injured.

"It's very disturbing to know that one of our little girls in our neighborhood was shot in the foot. Thank God it was the foot. You never know where the bullets are. Could have hit her in the head," one neighbor said.

Geniesha Thomas couldn't agree more. She's experienced kids caught in the crossfire firsthand.

"Back on December 17th, we were sitting in the house on the couch and a bullet came through my aunt's house and grazed my son on the back of his head," she explained.

That's not where the statistics end. Last month, 17 year-old Jordan Davis was gunned down on the Southside, police say, after an argument over loud music.

Thomas believes we're going to have to dig deep to make a change.

"More love in the community and us caring about ourselves and the people around us. These bullets are robbing them of their innocence," she said.
