LAKE CITY, Fla.-- Emergency crews tell Action News the clean-up could take weeks. Downed trees stretch all corners of Columbia County, crushing more than 50 local homes and businesses. At least eight have been deemed unlivable.
"I didn't think we were going to make it out to be honest," said Christina Broadstreet, whose home was nearly sliced in half by a massive tree, as 60 mph winds ripped through her neighborhood. Broadstreet was inside her home with her daughter and her husband when the storm hit and the tree fell on her home.
"We just ran to the bathroom and hid for a good 20 minutes because everything was falling down it was so loud," said Broadstreet. "It sounded like an earthquake almost. It didn't sound like trees falling."
With her entire life packed in her small sedan, Broadstreet is now searching for a new place to call home.
"The last 48 hours, it's been little sleep, and a lot of go-go-go to try and get everything out," she said.
The storm may have broken her home in half, but she says she refuses to let it break her spirits.
