JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--  The Sheriff's of The Sunshine State have spoken.

66 of them say the constitution should be left alone-- and citizens should be able to pack their firearms.

"We are sticking to our guns," Duval County Sheriff John Rutherford said.

Rutherford is one of dozens to sign off on his opinion. In a letter, he affrims that he "Will not support, assist or condone any unconstitutional infringement of your right to keep and bear arms as set forth in the 2nd Amendment."

"We all swore and oath to uphold the entire United States Constitution and we don't believe that assault weapons are the problem," he continued.

The Sheriff in Bradford County and Clay County have the same view.

The Florida Sheriff's Association also sounded off saying it "publicly acknowledges and reiterates its support for the rights provided by the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution."

"I don't want to let Congress or the State Legislature, I dont' want to let them off easy again. It's easy to pass a law and say we did our job, we can all go home and feel good about ourselves. When the real issue is about the guy behind the trigger," Rutherford said.

He went on to emphasis how we need to focus on mental health and the culture of death that's been created in this country. In Duval, he's promoting a bounty program where you get money for annonmously turning in someone you know with an illegal weapon.
