JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A bizarre murder mystery across the ocean has one Florida family pulling out all the stops to get answers.
Authorities say Gregory Faull, 52, was killed in his home in Belize last November. But no arrests have been made.
Action News spoke with Gregory Faull's father. He lives in St. Johns County. He says he thinks the only named person of interest in the case, famous antivirus software founder John McAfee, is responsible but will never pay the price.
The family fears the case has gone cold, a dead end in a death being investigated hundreds of miles away.
Gregory Faull was found dead in his home in Belize last November from a single gunshot to the head. Antivirus software founder and next-door-neighbor John McAfee fled the county after being named the sole person of interest.
"The family contacted me. It's an American citizen that was murdered in another county and they want justice," said Florida Senator Bill Nelson.
Not knowing where to turn, Faull's family enlisted the help of Senator Nelson. Action News obtained a copy of the letter the Senator has since sent to authorities in Belize.
"Today we are calling the Belize Ambassador to United States. I will be taking to him in the next couple days and I will ask for his personal intervention to get the justice apparatus wheels cranking so they can find out what happened and get to the bottom of who murdered this Floridian in Belize," the Senator told Action News.
Senator Nelson says he isn't surprised to learn assistance has been almost non-existent for Faull's family. He says the justice systems in foreign countries work very differently than the one in America.
Faull's father tells Action News he is convinced they will never get justice. Senator Nelson hopes one day they are able to prove him wrong.
"For Gregory, and for a lot of other people around the world that have been wronged in other countries, it will be a great day," Senator Nelson said.
McAfee is now in Miami. He said Faull complained about McAfee's dogs just days before several were poisoned. McAfee denies killing Faull.
Faull's father tells Action News Gregory was his only son.
Residents in Belize say Faull was a longtime homeowner there who recently retired as a builder and moved from Florida to live on the island full time.
