BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. -- A man charged with making threats against children will need to get a mental evaluation before he's able to leave jail on bond.
James Fields appeared in court Wednesday morning via closed-circuit television.
Investigator say he called the governor's office 13 times on Monday, claiming local children vandalized his property and making threats toward them.
In light of the shooting in Newtown, Conn., authorities say they weren't taking any chances.
"The deputies that went out there did not see any firearms in the home," said Capt. Brad Smith with the Bradford County Sheriff's Office. "They described the house as something you would see on TV. Hoarders or something like that. So there could have been firearms in the house, but we weren't able to locate any."
Fields has to get evaluated before he can post bail. His bond has been set at $250,000. Fields must also have no contact with children, and he can't have a firearm.
