JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Another day, another Toyota recall. It's the latest in a series of massive recalls impacting 14 million vehicles in the last few years.
Ernie Fogarty at Bayview Collision Center has already had a few Toyotas rolling into his shop with recalls.
The latest from the Japanese automaker is for a steering and water pump defects.
According to Toyota, the steering shaft defect may result in faulty steering and the water pump problem could cause cars to stall. In all, nearly three million vehicles around the world are affected. Last month, another seven and a half million were recalled for faulty power window switches.
"Toyota's normally make a good car and it's so many other small parts that are made by other people and then they put them into their car so sometimes the quality control on that might go bad," said Fogarty.
Ernie says owners of effected models should get a letter in the mail. But he says instead of wondering, be proactive.
"Call up the dealers and ask them, 'Hey my VIN number is this am I one of the recalled items,'" he said. "Yeah don't wait for them. Flood the phone calls with it and make sure they're safe. That's the key."
Many auto repair shops like Bayview Collision Center will be able to pull up your model car and tell you if it's under any kind of recall.
