GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Police are actively searching for a missing adult who is possibly armed and could be endangered.

Investigators say Larry Vantassell, 52, called his parents, who live outside the state, and indicated that he would potentially harm himself.

Vantassell is a combat veteran from Iraq and suffers from reported post-traumatic stress disorder and other painful injuries, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

They also report that the Iraq veteran is familiar with firearms and may possibly be armed.

Vantassell stands around 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 165 pounds, and has tattoos on both upper arms.

He was last known to be located around NW 2nd Street and NW 19th Lane in Gainesville.

If you have any information that could help locate Vantassell, contact GPD Dispatch at 955-1818.
