Murder over $40 could keep man behind bars for 30 years
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was convicted of attempted murder in the 2012 death of his roommate.
Royce Mincey, 52, was convicted Thursday on a charge of attempted second-degree murder.
In October 2012, Mincey was drunk when he had an argument with his roommate over his misplaced $40. Mincey woke up the victim and her boyfriend to ask about his money. As the victim walked out of her bedroom into the living room, Mincey slashed her throat with a butcher knife. The victim received 14 stitches to the neck.
Mincey faces 30 years in prison. He will be sentenced the week of June 3.
