JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – From the young to the old, the kittens to the pups, this weekend these furry friends all have one thing in common.

"They’re all looking for homes. They're all homeless. We want to clear out the shelters and the rescues for the holidays,” said Dianne Wiles, Development Director for First Coast No More Homeless Pets.

It’s the official “Home for the Holidays Mega Pet Adoption Event.” According to Wiles, it’s the biggest pet adoption event to ever be held in the country with more than 1,200 dogs and cats in need of a home.

One of them, clearly a staff favorite, is a cocker spaniel named Dallas with his age now showing through in his muzzle and ears. He’s a docile dog with a sad tale of an owner and a doggy brother both recently passing away. That’s why he’s now here at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds unexpectedly wearing an “Adopt Me” vest.

"He’s 10 years old. He's just looking for a really great, kind, retirement home,” said Wiles.

For just $20 you can take him and most of the pets at the adoption event home. They’re all micro-chipped, vaccinated, and either spayed or neutered. All they need now is you.

"I know we're going to find homes for all these guys. We're just asking the community to come on out. We're sure you're going to find your best friend here,” said Wiles.

The Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Event is being held inside the Jacksonville Fairgrounds Friday, November 30 through Sunday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. There is no fee for parking or admission.
