JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two survivors of the Bataan Death March will visit the USS Bataan at Mayport this morning. A small ceremony will be held for them on the ship.

The survivors will be escorted by several members of the Filipino American Veterans Association Honor Guard.

These brave veterans are a part of a special group of World War II heroes who were captured by Japanese forces in April 1942.

The tens of thousands of American and Filipino soldiers were forced to march for days in the scorching heat through the jungle. Thousands died. Those who survived faced the hardships of a prisoner of war camp.

The two survivors today will be honored at Mayport at 8:30 a.m.

And tomorrow night, the USS Bataan will host a basketball game between Florida and Georgtown. The game starts at 9.
