JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local bank has contributed $70,000 toward a pilot project to help the homeless.

The money will go toward opening the Jacksonville Day Resource Center (JDRC). The goal of the center is to give homeless people the resources they need to get off the streets.

The center is a one-year pilot project to see how helping the homeless can have  a positive impact on our entire area.

The mayor is asking other local organizations and businesses to contribute to the project. “The Jacksonville Day Resource Center pilot project represents a vital mission of partnership and goodwill that speaks to the heart and soul of our community,” said Mayor Brown. “I commend Wells Fargo for leading by example with a generous investment to help turn around lives and encourage greater support for this collaborative effort. We are committed to making this center a reality to help our entire city.”

The JDRC is expected to open by the end of this summer at the annex of the City Rescue Mission.
