New ramp causes confusion

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A ramp built to ease congestion did just the opposite Monday morning.

Our cameras caught multiple cars weaving through the barricades, trying to get onto the Collins- I-295 ramp ... and it wasn't open.

The mix-up could be coming from a sign, which tells drivers the ramp will be open on Nov. 4.

The problem was that it doesn't specify a time, so drivers thought it was OK to drive onto.

Action News asked FDOT spokesman Mike Goldman how drivers were supposed to know when the ramp opened if the sign didn't specify?

"Well, we have to look into that -- I don't know how the signs work," said Goldman.

This isn't the first time FDOT signs have been questioned.

Just last month Action News told you about another sign that lead drivers to the wrong courthouse in downtown.

Last week we told you about traffic flow problems FDOT admitted need to be fixed on State Road 9-b.

So we asked Goldman how they go about making sure these things don't happen.

"Look, its not an investigation, it's something we have to look at. It's a case-by-case basis," said Goldman.

Goldman says the barricades will be removed and the ramp will be open for drivers later Monday.
