JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One man was hospitalized after being shot multiple times at a gas station on the Westside.

It happened around 1 p.m. at the Citgo gas station on Lenox Avenue and Ellis Road.

One witness, who did not want to give her last name, told Action News she was pumping gas when a group of men walked up and opened fire right behind her car.

"I dropped to the ground on top of the gas and pretended that I was dead. I didn't want them to get me," said Brenda, a witness.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, there was some kind of confrontation between the victim and several other men.

"The victim is a younger black male in his early 20s during the confrontation he was shot in his stomach multiple times," said Detective Eric Jones, JSO.

Brenda said once the men ran off, she immediately rushed to help the bleeding victim.

"I was talking to him and I told him that God was with him and that I was with him," said Brenda.

According to Brenda, she heard one of the men utter something as he shot the victim.

"He was laughing as he did this, he thought it was funny and he said we're coming back," said Brenda.

According to JSO, the victim was with someone else at the time of the incident.

Detectives are looking for anywhere between four to six suspects who may be involved. If you have any information that could lead police to an arrest you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
