Person rescued after falling from roof of UF basketball arena

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- One person suffered serious injuries after falling from the roof of the University of Florida's basketball arena early Thursday morning.
Gainesville Fire and Rescue said they responded to a call at the O'Connell Center on West University Avenue around 2 a.m. with fire fighters and paramedics.

The person was reportedly was trapped in a concrete enclosure at ground level. GFR's Technical Rescue Team was called to perform an elevated rope rescue to lift that person out. They report, it took about an hour and a half to get the patient out.

GFR said the person has serious injuries but remained stable throughout the rescue.
