GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- It's slated to be the largest sports complex Clay County has ever seen.

The mega ballpark could generate 3,000 jobs over a decade, an economic boost Clay County commissioner Wendell Davis welcomes.

"Great quality of life, you're talking about family kids, the ripple effect of hotels and restaurants," said Davis.

With a $16 to $19 million price tag, Davis tells Action News he has some funding questions for the Clay County Development Authority.

"Many people don't understand the difference in funds that some are Capital and can only be used that way, some are general operations and can only be used that way," said Davis.

Action News asked Gregory Clary with the Clay County Development Authority if it thought this was feasible.

"I absolutely do I think it's a home run," said Clary.

The development around it and the economic growth will pump millions of dollars back into the county," said Clary. But there are worries about the initial investment.

"Unless there's private funding, there's not another source other than the county," said Davis.  Action News asked if the county can afford to foot that kind of bill.  Davis says the county is still working on it.

Action News has learned Clay County could see a surplus when it comes to this upcoming budget, but it's still working on how it will allocate the funds for Capital Improvement Projects.

A 35 acre lot of land has already been donated.  The land sits between Orange Park and Middleburg.
