ST. MARYS, Ga. -- A man from St. Marys is in jail, charged with threatening to blow up his sister and girlfriend with homemade pipe bombs.

Cory James Underwood, 18, is being held on felony terrorist threats and acts.

The incident began Thursday when officers responded to a call about a bomb threat. Witnesses told police Underwood made threats about blowing up his relatives to get out of paying child support.

One witness saw Underwood making the pipe bombs at his home. A witness also overheard Underwood say how he planned to put one in his girlfriend's car and his sister's house.

As police mobilized to help with the evacuation of the neighborhood around the home, Underwood drove off.

Police pulled him over and arrested him. Nothing was found in his car.

Police searched his home and found five devices. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Bomb Unit contained the devices.

Underwood could also face federal charges. He is being held in the Camden County Public Safety Complex in Woodbine.
