ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- St. Johns Country Day School will soon have help from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to bolster security on campus during times of peak use.

The precautionary measure is in response to the growing trend to increase security at schools in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy.

According to Headmaster Edward Ellison, "Safety and security are paramount at St. Johns. We feel this is a visible, sensible and meaningful step for our school as we continually evaluate our safety protocols and take appropriate measures to bolster security. By adding the Sheriff's Office deputy, we aim to provide extra layers of safety, security and confidence for everyone on our beautiful campus."

Numerous school districts in the region including St. Johns, Clay, and Alachua Counties have added law enforcement officers to campuses of schools within the past month.
