PALATKA, Fla. -- An elementary school employee in Putnam County is under arrest, accused of sexually abusing a child.

Superintendent Phyllis Criswell says Freddie Taylor, 21, was a part time food service worker at James Long Elementary School.  And that he volunteered as an assistant basketball coach at Beasley Middle School.  No word if his alleged victim was a student at either school.

Criswell, who is still learning the details of the case herself, called the arrest disappointing. "It's always disappointing," she said.  "But all you can do is deal with the situation, in a legal and proactive manner.  And keep at the forefront of everything you do, the safety of children.  That is our number one utmost, most important concern at all times, is the safety of our children."

As law requires, Taylor has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. He is being held in the Putnam County Jail.
