Jacksonville, FLA. - At Dicks Wings on Old Saint Augustine Road they've been serving customers for nine years now. The kitchen manager and cook known as "Senior" told us he has nothing to hide and gladly took us back into the kitchen for a tour. Senior told us he knows they have some problems and violations and they are working to fix them.
The state health inspector found 12 critical violations at the restaurant including employees storing personal items with customer's plates, food stuck to clean dishes, black buildup in the interior of ice machine, no certified food manager for the establishment and small flying insects in bar area.
Senior took us to the bar where he explained the insects were fruit flies, "Now we pour bleach and vinegar down the beer tap drains to keep it from happening."
In the kitchen everything looked to be in order and clean - including the dishes. The ice machine is spotless now too.
Senior says he's sorry about the bad report. He wants previous and new customers to please know, "We have the best wings, fresh food prepped daily and there are little things we get hit on but we do our best to keep the kitchen clean and sanitized... and I'm pretty good in the kitchen too."
