SJC school leaders meeting with Sheriff over security, emergency plans

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- School administrators will meet with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office today to see if the district's security plans need to be updated or tweaked.

The move stems from a request from Governor Rick Scott who is urging all Florida school districts to take a closer look at their security policies.

And St. Johns County is doing just that. Parents are scared. And schools are responding by beefing up school security.

"Throughout this week, they'll see increased presence of law enforcement on the school sites, said Tim Forson the Deputy Superintendent of St. Johns County Schools.

Deputies will be at schools to give parents some peace of mind as school districts all over the state review their security policies.

Forson says each St. Johns County school already has emergency plans in place, from lockdown procedures to evacuations.

Today, school administrators will meet with the Sheriff's Office to go over the district's plans to see if changes need to be made. 

"Those are very comprehensive," added Forson. "You're trying to predict or at least plan for any possible type of scenario."
