WASHINGTON, D.C. -- If automatic budget cuts kick in on March 1, the impact will be felt nationwide.

Teachers from across the country are on Capitol Hill, arguing schools will be hurt big-time by sequestration, which is scheduled to kick in next Friday

Funding would be cut for before and after school programs.

70,000 kids enrolled in Head Start could be kicked out.

Thousands of teachers could also lose their jobs, and college students could lose financial aid.

The IRS is also facing cuts and they would have to cut back during tax filing season.

There would be fewer IRS operators taking your calls, and office hours at taxpayer assistance centers would be reduced.

If you need to fly for work or vacation, the number of TSA workers would be slashed.

The head of Homeland Security expects an additional hour to be tacked on to your wait time in security lines.

Another warning comes from the Centers for Disease Control. The agency says immunizations would be cut back for at least 50,000 kids and adults.

Sequestration can be avoided if Congress agrees on a long-term spending plan with deficit reductions.

Right now, Democrats want to raise taxes, and Republicans refuse to sign on.
