ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla.-- If you're looking for a job, St. Johns County is a good place to start.

"We're delighted to live here as residents. We love the area,' JeAnne McAllister said.

According to the latest numbers, St. Johns County had an unemployment rate of 6.2 percent for January, compared to the national average of 7.9 percent.

Kirk Wendland, President of St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce say they're proud of that news.

"We think that we have a great qualified work source that's ready to go to work and ready to take on the challenges of today's environment," he said.

Wendland says a number of things contribute to the low rate. Tourism, health care and manufacturing top the list. Surrounding counties also saw an improvement in numbers. Duval's unemployment rate is at 8 percent. Flagler is at 11 percent and Putnam is at 10.9.

Wendland says as for their county-- the goal is to make up the greater, growng puzzle piece of Northeast Florida.

"Our success isn't going to be within a vacuum. We're not going to be great if our neighbors aren't."
